There is always a lot going on in the city of Louisville, but that is especially true during Derby season. There are several events that are family friendly around town. Check out what is going on this weekend, which is highlighted by Saturday’s Marathon and Mini-Marathon.

Friday, April 27

Great Balloon Rush-Hour Race. Bowman Field, public entrance off Pee Wee Reese Road, 7 a.m.

Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront and Kentucky Derby Festival Chow Wagon. Waterfront, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. The Miller Lite Music Stage will feature live concerts with local and regional entertainment and a wide variety of musical genres including jazz, R&B, country, rock and blues.

Neigh-Maste on the Waterfront. Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, Great Lawn, noon-1 p.m. Relax and recharge at this yoga event at the Waterfront. All-level yoga class for all ages and fitness levels. Certified instructors from 502 Power Yoga, Buti Yoga and Soul Cleanse Yoga will lead the class on the Great Lawn inside of Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville. Admission is free with a 2018 Pegasus Pin. Food, drinks and pets are not allowed.

U.S. Bank Kentucky Derby Festival Great BalloonFest: Great Balloon Glow. At the Kentucky Exposition Center. Gates open at 6:00 pm. Glow begins at 9:00 pm. Admission is free with a 2018 Pegasus Pin. 502-584-3378 or kdf.org. $8 to park at KFEC

Ohio Valley Wrestling Run for the Ropes. Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, Great Lawn, 6-7:30 p.m. Special meet-and-greet with Ohio Valley Wrestling stars (5 p.m.), followed by six matches including a special “all-for-1 one-for all” and over the top rope Battle Royal. Presented by Ohio Valley Wrestling. Admission is free with a 2018 Pegasus Pin. Information, 502-759-7665.

Waterfront Jam Concert: Max featuring special guest Logan Henderson. Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, 8 p.m. No food, drinks or pets allowed. Admission is free with a 2018 Pegasus Pin.

Saturday, April 28

U.S. Bank Kentucky Derby Festival Great BalloonFest. Great Balloon Race. Bowman Field, public entrance off Pee Wee Reese Road, 7 a.m. Admission is free with a 2018 Pegasus Pin. 502-584-3378 or kdf.org.

Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon. 7:30 a.m. Start on Main St. near Slugger Field, 13.1 miles and 26.2 miles. Free for spectators. Entry fees and registration information, www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com.

Kentucky Derby Festival NPC Derby Championships. Galt House, Grand Ballroom, 140 N. Fourth St. Prejudging, 10 a.m.; finals 6 p.m. Fitness, figure, swimwear and bodybuilding competition featuring amateurs and pro athletes from across the country. Kentucky Derby Festival Ken-Ducky Derby. Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, 4:00 pm Event Begins. 6:00 pm Duck Drop. Launch of 20,000 ducks into the Ohio River. ONE lucky duck will win a BRAND NEW 2018 DODGE RAM TRUCK provided by Swope Family of Dealerships. 2nd and 3rd place ducks will walk away with cash prizes. Da’Ville Classic Drum Line Showcase. Louisville Palace, 625 S. Fourth St., 5 p.m. High school and community drum lines from Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana showcase their creativity, musicianship and pageantry. Tickets are $10. 502-583-4555.

Kentucky Derby Festival Fitness Jam. Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, Great Lawn, 5-7 p.m. Join the best Zumba and U-JAM instructors, wear comfortable clothes and come burn some calories. Admission is free with a 2018 Pegasus Pin. Information, 502-554-4486.

Kentucky Derby Festival The Slice: Spice, Style and Soul. The Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, 1701 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd., 6- 9 p.m. Live entertainment and food tasting. The one-day food festival serves up more than exceptional menu items from chefs and caterers throughout the metropolitan area. It offers tastes of southern cuisine as well as the influences of the city’s melting pot. To compliment your pallet of delectable delights, a variety of wines are also served as a special thanks for your patronage. Another great attraction is the great live jazz, blues and R&B entertainment – all encapsulated in a unique and elegant atmosphere. Proceeds benefit charities and assistance programs. Sunday, April 29

Kentucky Derby Festival PNC Tour de Lou. Start and finish near Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville, Waterfront Park. Cycling event with staggered start based on distance, 62.1 Metric Century (8:30 a.m.); 35-mile ride (8:40 a.m.); 20-mile ride (8:50 a.m.). This is for riders of all levels of experience. The course highlights include an Olmsted Park Tour, including Shawnee, Chickasaw, Wayside, Iroquois and Cherokee parks.  Cyclists will also travel through all areas of the city from Downtown and Churchill Downs to the South End and Highlands. Mayor’s Derby Brunch on the River. Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing, 7410 Moorman Road, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Brunch featuring a traditional Kentucky breakfast, live riverboat jazz, and tours of the property including the Moremen Family Chapel. Kentucky Derby Festival “V Foundation” Celebrity Bocce Tournament. Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, Great Lawn, noon-4 p.m. Play bocce with celebrities for a great cause. Children’s Tea with the Kentucky Derby Festival Princesses. Crowne Plaza, 830 Phillips Lane, 1-4 p.m. Children ages 4 and older meet the Kentucky Derby Festival Queen and Princesses. Children are encouraged to dress like a prince or princess for this social event with the members of the Derby Festival’s 2017 Royal Court. The Children’s Tea is coordinated by The Fillies, Inc., a local volunteer group that works closely with the Derby Festival. Reservations are required. $35. kdf.org.
